Mémorial de Caen

The Memorial's building occupies the site of the command bunker of the German General W. Richter, who fought against British and Canadian troops on 6 June 1944.

This is an excellent museum with many dioramas and historical artefacts from WWII.

This "museum for peace" is a place of history and reflection on the close links between the rights of Man and the preservation of peace.

It gives the visitor a sensory experience of the impact of the invasion and the intense bombing campaign of the city of Caen in which 70% of the city was destroyed and over 2,000 French civilians killed.

Visitors are taken on a journey back into the collective memory from 1918 to the present day.

American Cemetery

This moving and revenant site located on a bluff overlooking Omaha Beach covers 172.5 acres and contains the graves of 9,385 US military dead, most of whom lost their lives in the D-Day landings and ensuing operations.

On the Walls of the Missing are inscribed 1,557 names.

The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial is located in Colleville-sur-Mer, on the site of the temporary American St. Laurent Cemetery, established by the US Army on June 8, 1944 as the first American cemetery on European soil in World War II.

The visitor centre is about 100m from the cemetery and is designed to complement and enhance the experience of visiting the cemetery.

Overlord Museum

Life size soldiers and their war machines are presented in true to life recreation scenes with breathtaking realism using more than 35 vehicles, tanks and guns.

This is a collection by someone who was both a witness to the conflict and involved in the reconstruction of Normandy.

It presents details of the period from the Allied landing in Normandy through to the liberation of Paris.
